Congratulations to one of my former professors, Chris Enos, who has just published a new book featuring her photographs of the decaying architecture of southeastern New Mexico. 285 Broken Dreams includes more than 200 full-color photographs plus an essay by historian Elvis E. I am pleased to announce the launch of SageGallery.net! Sage Gallery is a new fine art gallery and metaphysical shop located in Manchester, NH. Opened in September, Sage Gallery is operated by Janice Donnelly (hi mom!), a fine art painter and intuitive palmistry reader. Janice has served as director of the Manchester Artist Association Gallery, and is a former resident of the Fort Point Arts Community in South Boston, MA. Support the Brattle Theatre at Art House 2011, a silent art auction fundraiser

It’s my second year doing a micro-site based on WordPress for the Brattle Film Foundation’s Art House annual silent art auction fundraiser, and this year’s art looks amazing! I created a site that showcases the work of some 70 artists in several media-based portfolios, cross-linked with brief biographies and links to individual artist websites. Social media tools allow sharing across multiple platforms to further interest in the event. Event ticket sales are handled by a WordPress-compatible shopping cart plugin installed on the Brattle Theatre’s primary website.

The New Yorker’s 404 page

Every once in a while you come across a 404 page – the page you land on when something cannot be found. Some sites put a lot of thought into making these pages more useful, and many add a dash of humor to try to defuse the inevitable frustration a user experiences when something goes wrong. I recently came across this one on The New Yorker’s website.

Claire Carroll and I are pleased to announce the re-launch of ccyoga.com. Claire’s new site is the first I’ve created that makes use of web fonts, a new tool that allows designers to use an extended suite of fonts directly in the text of their sites, rather than as embedded Flash objects or graphics files. I’ve also introduced CSS3 image manipulations, including rotation and drop shadow, to give inline images the appearance of Polaroids. These images are interactive, popping to the top of the pile as the mouse hovers above them.

Claire and I are both excited to see the impact this new site has on her client bookings, and will be following how the site is shared across social media in the coming months. Visit ccyoga.com and take a peek!

CCYoga.com nearing finish

Putting the finishing touches on CCYoga.com, a small site I’m making for Claire Carroll Yoga. The site makes use of font-embedding through Google’s font repository, and makes use of CSS tricks to create Polaroid-like borders around images on the home page. These “Polaroids” are interactive too, using a :hover state on absolutely-positioned elements that pops them to the top of the stack by manipulating z-index. It’s nifty!

The site is in the final stage of edits – look for a launch announcement shortly.

Google’s interactive HTML5 doodle

Ok, at first I thought it was just a pretty tribute to Alexander Calder, but it’s more than that: Today’s Google doodle is an interactive Calder mobile created entirely in HTML5 – there’s even a shadow below the search field! (I get excited about these things.) See it now at http://google.com/
